The Role

As Communication & Design Coordinator, you will be pivotal to the organisation as the member of staff responsible for how UCA Students’ Union (UCASU)  communicates with its student members, the public, and other stakeholders. You will deliver high quality digital communication and provide expertly-designed material to increase awareness and engagement with our activities. You will use your digital skill and creative flair to drive high engagement with students.

 

You will also be expected to reinforce our visual identity, ensuring it is used correctly. As part of a new department at the award-winning UCASU, you will be key to helping the Union meet its strategic objectives.

Job Description

Accountable to: Head of Business Development

Responsible for: Student staff and volunteers (up to 100)

Job Purpose

  1. To coordinate UCASU’s design work.
  2. To coordinate the delivery of UCASU’s internal and external communications.
  3. To coordinate our website and digital channels, working to ensure high quality and development.
  4. To contribute to the operational and strategic plans of UCASU, and to give specialist support to the sabbatical officer team in relation to communications.

Key Responsibilities

  1. To coordinate all work with UCASU communications and design work
  • Coordinate the content and delivery of key UCASU-wide publications and activities.
  • To produce supporting material, designed to a high standard with excellent layout, hierarchy and typographic skills.
  • Operational responsibility for content on the Union’s digital platforms and e-communication including websites, e-commerce, and social networks.
  • Interpret analytics and provide regular reports on digital communication performance.
  • Coordinate photographing and filming of key Union activities and events.
  • Responsible for systematically storing articles, images, and audio-visual material
  • Coordinate all design work for UCASU including coordinating systems to manage design request, design production, and printing/publishing.
  • Handle all outsourced printing, ensuring material is delivered to the printer in the correct way.
  • Provide specialist advice to colleagues on matters relating to communications methods and technology.
  • Develop and coordinate a social media operational plan, ensuring growth and increased engagement.
  • Ensure the Union’s brand is used properly, in line with the organisation’s brand guidelines.
  1. Coordinate the delivery of the Union’s external communications 
  • Coordinate the delivery of UCASU’s PR and external communications
  • Liaise with, and answer enquiries from media, individuals and other organisations
  • Prepare and supervise the production of publicity, mailshots, promotional videos, photographs and films.
  • Coordinate UCASU photo opportunities.
  • Coordinate events including press conferences, exhibitions, open days and tours.
  1. To contribute to the operational and strategic plans of UCASU, and to give specialist support to the sabbatical officer team in relation to communications
  • Provide information relating to communication and marketing activities, digital platforms and e-communication for key reports and meetings as required by the Chief Executive or Head of Business Development.
  • Coordinate research projects relating to communications including running surveys, collating 
secondary research, and investigating new media and technologies.
  • Liaise with University staff and external companies on issues relating to design and 
communication.
  • Responsible for student volunteers within communications.
